Is Practice Portuguese Free?
Is Practice Portuguese free? Partly. There is no free trial, but the free tier is genuinely useful: the podcasts and Shorties are free to listen to, the Learning Notes are open, and three Shorties episodes are fully unlocked so you can judge the teaching before you pay. Full Premium membership is what opens the more than 100 units, 800 interactive lessons, transcripts, and Smart Review flashcards, and it costs 15 euros a month, about $16, with 15% off the yearly plan (from its own membership pricing, checked July 2026). If you subscribe monthly through the website and it is not a fit, they refund that month within a couple of weeks. App-store purchases follow Apple or Google refund rules instead.
Free will take a real learner a long way. The podcasts alone are hours of native European Portuguese, and for listening practice that is worth more than most paid apps. What you pay for, if you upgrade, is the structure: the ordered lessons, the flashcards, the transcripts that turn passive listening into study. Start with the free podcasts. They are excellent, and they cost nothing. Pay for the membership only when the thing you are missing is structure, not content.
